Dolly Parton was born the 4th of twelve children in Tennessee. They lived in a one-room cabin in the Smoky Mountains, self-described as "dirt poor." She was heavily influenced by church music and began performing as a young child. She was regularly performing on radio by the age of 10, recording by age 13 when she also first performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
Dolly immediately moved to Nashville after graduating from high school, and "it's all history." She has become a megastar in the field of country music, but is known the world over. Her charitable work overshadows her prowess as a successful businesswoman. Dolly is very passionate about childhoold literacy - her own father never learned to read and write.
The "Imagination Library" is active on muliple continents and provides literature to thousands of children. More than 76 million books have been sent out to children, despite their financial status, since its inception in 1955.
Dolly is a true "Rags to Riches" story and she continues to inspire and give back! Check out 10 quotes from Dolly below!

I'm not a huge country music fan (although I love all types!), but this is a pretty cool song & video that seemed appropriate to include in this post. Dolly is the last artist included in this vignette, which speaks volumes. Superstar!!
