Did anyone else grow up actually watching Saturday morning TV? I got to watch some but would always have to cut it off to go to piano lessons! Oh, the horror! for a young kid. I'm better for it now, but I also remember some useful and informational shows mixed in with the cartoons.
Schoolhouse Rock sticks out in my mind, singing you to a greater knowledge of history and grammar... and The More You Know (Because Knowledge is Power) with spots containing Public Service Announcements.
They had that partially right, but Knowledge is only part of the equation.
Another was Reading Rainbow, a program geared toward encouraging kids to read - the program ran for 21 seasons, airing 155 half-hour episodes. Even after it went off the air, this concept was turned into an iTunes app that suddenly turned into the #1 most downloaded-app in the store.
I loved to read as a kid, and growing up - but it was certainly even more of a motivator to read in elementary school... when Pizza Hut incentivized this by gifting you with your own personal-pan pizza! A certificate was provided after your teacher recorded that you'd read a certain number of books. Now, that was Something to Celebrate!!
Reading continues to be highly encouraged in kids and is a pet project of Dolly Parton - her brain child, The Imagination Library has sent out over 76 million books worldwide to children since its inception in 1955.
I wholeheartedly encourage and support reading in children - it's the foundation for success!!! But... what about Big Kids? (aka Adults) It's vital to keep learning and applying your new knowledge for growth your entire life. The foundation for success in life and business is Mindset - tweaking and massaging ideas to help you become a better person.
There are some basic books that are a must-read, especially when you are first delving into improving that gray matter! Reading should be a daily activity, even if it is for only 10 minutes. (And, don't tell me you DON'T HAVE TIME. Ever heard of Audio books?? Feed your brain by listening while you do other activities!)
